Churches in the southern part of the world say that another world is possible. Through social fight, the world will be more fair. Fight against imperialism, IMF and the World Bank are now put on the agenda of the churches. What do the churches in the North and in a rich country like Norway think of this? Are the poor countries of the south on a dead end or do they express rightful resentment from the oppressed?

We’ll take the debate!

Speakers are:

John Y. Jones : Head of Networkers SouthNorth. He is a lecturer and philologist, and former Head of the international centre of Diakonhjemmet (Deacon Home) and IGNIS.

Stig Lægdene : Rector of Churches Education Centre in the North and member of the Norwegian Churches Committee for International Questions.

The Battle of Badr

In memory of the martyrs of the battle

17th of Ramadan - 30th of September 2007

The Battle of Badr took place in the 2nd year of hijra and with the battle a remarkable Era in the history of Islam begins. The emigration of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) to Medina had turned the enemies from Mecca more hostile, and they constantly kept on thinking how they could overthrow him, and put an end to Islam. The battle of Badr was the most important among the Islamic battles of Destiny. For the first time the followers of the new faith were put into a serious test. Had victory been the lot of the pagan army while the Islamic forces were still at the beginning of their developments, the faith of Islam could have come to an end. This battle laid the foundation of the Islamic State and made out of the Muslims a force to be reckoned with by the dwellers of the Arabian Peninsula.

LAYLATUL QADR

27th of Ramadan   09.10.07

The month of Ramadan enjoys an intrinsic superiority over all other months of the year. It has a night better than thousand months according to the Qur'an: "Undoubtedly, we sent it down in the blessed and valuable night. And what you know, what the blessed night is? The blessed and valuable night is better than a thousand months. Therein descend angels and Jibrail (the Spirit) by the command of their Lord for every affair. That is all peace till the rising of the dawn." (Surah Qadr)
